POSSIBLE SCAMS
Description: WFPSO Criminal Investigations received two separate reports of possible scams. #1 The victim received a phone call from someone identifying themselves as a bell south employee. This person told the victim that he was a good customer and they would allow him to have his bill automatically deducted from his checking account. The suspect asked for the victim's checking account number. #2 The victim received a phone call from someone identifying themselves as a deputy from the sheriff's office. The "deputy" stated that he was investigating a credit card fraud and asked the victim for credit card numbers. In both incidents the victims did not give the caller any information. Anyone that has received a similar call or who has any information relevant to this scam should contact the WFPSO Criminal Investigations at 225-784-3132 or 225-635-3241. You should never give account information to someone over the phone. Request a personal visit of contact through the mail. If you are still suspicious, contact the company directly or contact your local law enforcement agency. If you receive a suspicious call, you should note the time and day of the call and what the caller says to you. Caller ID information should be noted and shown to law enforcement. |
